    Lehigh Gorge State Park

    Situated in the Luzerne and Carbon counties of eastern Pennsylvania, this park follows the Lehigh River from Walter Dam in the north, to the town of Jim Thorpe in the south. The park is characterized by a deep gorge with steep walls, thick vegetation and many waterfalls. The park can be accessed outside of Jim Thorpe from I-209 and I-903.

    The 15,500-acre (6,273 ha) Hickory Run State Park lies in the foothills of the Pocono Mountains. The park features more than 40 mi (64.3 km) of hiking trails, three state park natural areas and many trout streams. I-47 intersects the park, providing access from the north and south.

    Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority

    Founded in 1991, the Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority was designated as a National Heritage Area by the US Congress in 2000. The LHVA encompasses the watershed area of the Lackawanna River in Lackawanna, Susquehann, Wayne, and Luzerne counties and is home to the Steamtown National Historic Site.

    Archbald Pothole State Park

    This 150-acre (60.7 ha) park was named after the Archbald Pothole, a geologic feature found within. The pothole is 38 ft (11.6 m) deep and has an elliptical shaped diameter of 42 ft (12.8 m) by 24 ft (7.3 m). A small loop trail starting at the wayside follows an old coal mine road around the park. Over 100 acres (40.5 ha) of the park are open to limited hunting. Access can be gained from Hwy. 6 and at the north end of Main St. in Archbald.

    The Tubs Nature Park
    Located in the Plains Township, The Tubs Nature Area covers a 500 acre (202 ha) area. The name comes from the Wheelbarrow Run stream that flows through a ravine in the park. This stream has eroded a series of large potholes or tubs. Hiking trails lead to and around the Tubs and the surrounding area.

    The expansive Community Park in West Hazleton is situated on 167 acres (67.5 ha) of land. Recreational facilities at the park include tennis courts, soccer fields, a large fishing lake and an extensive hiking and biking trail system. The park is open for ice fishing in the winter.

    Moon Lake County Park

    Operated by Luzerne County, Moon Lake Park was started in 1968. The park has a size of 600 acres (243 ha) and includes picnic areas, tennis and basketball courts, a camping area, a marina, a swimming pool and a concession stand. An administration building and a nature education center are located at Moon Lake. There are also water and sewage facilities throughout the park.
